Word Wall Challenge

by Didi
(Australia)

In my room I have the 200 most common words on display on a variety of coloured sheets. When teaching sight words, I often use this activity to make reading them fun.

Challengers stand at opposite sides of the room and a word is called out. They then run to the wall, find the word, call it out and spell it.

It's a simple idea, but the children love it and it has helped significantly in their reading and spelling of these common sight words.

They play this game when they have free time. Use a wand or something similar and it's even more fun!
