White board Handwriting and Writing Practice
by Donna
I have found portable white board activities fantastic for the early years. The children love using them and they are great for practicing those early letters, numbers, patterns and drawing.
Have a set of portable white boards available as part of the 'Writing Center' or make the white board activities part of a weekly dedicated group task.
I have found the best size to be the bigger ones at about .8x.5metres. This gives each child enough room to really experiment and practice their alphabet letter formation without being restricted by room.
Set up a large sheet in the area with the alphabet, numbers, and some pattern ideas for children to copy and experiment with.
I have found this also to be really great for those children who are reluctant to draw.
Just make sure you have a few rules, such as only one person per white board and is even best to only use the white boards during specified times, otherwise they can become messy with children 'going silly' with their drawing. Basically though, I have found children respond well to them without many problems.
Enjoy!
