Using Shopping Catalogues

by Trendy
(Australia )

Use shopping catalogues from local shopping centres - cut out the pictures and either laminate them or use fresh pictures to make a shopping list.

These can be used to encourage healthy eating programs and develop language skills and communication.

For example...

*Matching items with seasons. For example in winter season you wear winter clothing, summer you may wear summer clothes.

*Meal time pictures - breakfast meal could contain cereal, toast, orange juice etc. You can draw meal plates such a bowl for breakfast, dinner plate for dinner and a lunch box for lunch.

More Ideas with Shopping Catalogues
by: Robyne

Shopping catalogues are also great for Maths-
* What can you buy for $10, $20? etc.
* How much will these items cost me?
* Set a task where students need to buy a gift for each member of their family. Add up using calculators, work out change and so on.
* Best buys etc..
They are also great for reading- "find me the vegetable soup", etc..
And writing:
* what I need to take on a beachside holiday
* camping trip
* to the city
