THERE ARE NEW COMMENTS (BELOW) ON THIS K-3 TEACHING DISCUSSION....

Hi Donna,

I am about to embark on a term theme about the 5 senses in humans (and also looking at the different senses different animals/insects use for survival and protection).

Whenever I begin a new theme I go straight to your Theme Flashcards to download and print off 2 copies of each - one is used on the Word Wall and not laminated; the other is laminated and used each morning for the learning of new vocabulary. They are just right! - Perfect for the job!

However, you don't seem to have any flashcard words and pictures for the 5 senses. Is that something you are planning to add to your already vast resource stock? If not, would you be able to make some up please?

Once again, thank you for your wonderful and generous site. I know it makes life a lot easier for many of us out there in the busy world of teaching.

Hi Celia

Thanks for your input - Mel, you are welcome to email the unit assessments to me but I am afraid I can only put them up if they are totally your own work - unfortunately we have problems copyright wise with sharing resources (I know - it is very, very tricky !!!!).

Thanks Mel and Celia....

Hi, Mel!
Could you please let me have a copy of your unit assessment, and other ideas that you used for your 5 Senses theme study? Many thanks! Celia

Hi Donna,
Would it be possible to have flashcards with pictures to introduce specific genres eg. Narrative:
Pictures to illustrate Beginning middle and end of a story . Thanks so much.

Hi Everyone

We have the '5 Senses' Word Cards - ready to go for you - just have to build the page to pop them up. Should be up by tomorrow.

Cheers
Donna

Hi, Mel!
I'm just about to commence the 5 Senses theme, and would appreciate any resources, etc, you used to enhance this theme for my class of Year 2/3 kids. Look forward to hearing from you soon! Many thanks, Celia

Hi Donna,

I look forward to seeing the flashcards for The 5 Senses and using them on the Word Wall and as part of the vocab program with my class.

These are a few words I would like to use as part of vocab development within the unit: sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, eyes, ears, tongue, mouth, fingers, hand, skin, nose, taste buds, sour, sweet, salty, soft, hard, rough, smooth, prickly, dark, light, smelly, stinky, bright, shiny, loud, quiet, noisy, hot, cold, stale, fresh, tongue map.

Also, I would like to get in touch with Mel, who posted a comment and offered to share with me, her ideas and unit assessment for the 5 Senses. Please would you put us in touch with one another.

Thanks!

Some words associated with the sense of smell, to add to your list: fragrance, odour, stinky, sniff, perfume, whiff, pong ...

Hi Julia

Thanks for your input. We have got '5 Senses' words on our list. We have been tidying up a few older resources and at the moment have our illustrator working on 'desert' and 'dragon' words.

It is always tricky to find the balance with our time usage, but, we are trying to upload at least a set of theme words every couple of weeks again.

Desert and Dragons should be completed in 2 weeks - I will earmark 5 Senses for the next lot as it has been on the futures list for a while now.

Sorry it cannot be sooner Julia - I have had a few others waiting for the desert and dragon words also.

Please keep an eye open for them in the next few weeks.

If you and others could also jot down in the comments section here any words you particularly want for the 5 Senses list that would be helpful also....

Thanks Julia

New Comments

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
