Starting the Day Year 2 and 3

by Denise

The school day begins at 8:45am. Children gather onto the mat. I welcome students to the class for the day. "Good Morning everyone. It is great to see you all today." I announce any special lessons that the children have for the day.

We sing the 'Days of the Week' song. The days of the week are sung to the tune of the 'Addams Family theme song'(prompt with the days of the week chart). I found this by googling 'songs to learn with'. We then say the calendar rhyme - 'Thirty days has September...' (prompt poem is on a chart).

Then we make a fist with our left hand and touch each knuckle and in-between as we say the months of the year. On top of knuckle is 31 days in between knuckles is 30, 28/29. I then quiz chn asking them to tell my how many days in different months. Chn can use their knuckles or the rhyme to help them with the answer.
