Sight Word Storage
Submitted by Nellie (WA) (11-10-2012)
I use DVD or Video Cases (if you can still find them) to store sight words. My local Video Hire store is always selling bags of them - and sometimes I have managed to get some for free by mentioning that I was going to use them in my classroom!!
They are also quite inexpensive to buy from discount warehouse type stores. The cases are easy to stack and store and you can insert labels into the spine and cover. Also good storage for phonics games.

Year 1 Telling the time
Submitted by Danielle
With a year one class we played What's the Time Mr Wolf - but instead of the wolf (myself) calling out 'It's one o'clock!" I used a clock with moveable hands.

Storing Teacher Themed Resources
Submitted by Jennifer
I am having a major sort out! Has anyone got any ideas for how to organise teaching theme resources?

I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!

What others are saying...
Great to use for literacy and maths games too! You place game rules on the back & name down the spine.
I have these coloured plastic envelopes that go into a a4 folder. I colour coordinate and then label them in levels. They expand to hold them on a key ring and sit neatly in my book case.
This is a great idea, I have never thought of it myself. I have been using baby wipe containers (from local kindys- they give them for free), They are easy to label and big enough to store sight words- I use them for all my theme words also and games I have made. Great for things that are a little too big for the video cases!
I use the clear plastic zipper bags from sheets to store my stuffed animals and book together after using them. I use the small bra plastic snap bags for flash cards or anything that size. Like the video container idea too!
I also use the old video cases to store games that I have made. They are so quick and easy to access and are so much neater on the shelves!
I definitely recommend this to anyone - not just for sight words, but for anything that can fit and that does not already have its own case.
