School Activities and Routines Cards - Suggestions for Use

  • GENERAL IDEAS FOR STORING AND USING THEME WORD CARDS

  • Ideal for use with concept book "In Year ____ I will learn ....."

  • We have had quite a few visitors ask about ESL and Special Needs communication cards. We have incorporated daily routines into these cards. Print and laminate the routine cards (such as 'sit on mat' etc) and place a hole in one corner - pop on a curtain ring, or a split pin, and have available to use with your ESL or Special Needs children. You could make up smaller size versions for your ESL/Special Needs children to use themselves.

  • Make a class big book with each child writing and illustrating a page 'At school we........

  • Brainstorm more words for this theme and use the blank cards for the children to write and illustrate those words.

  • Incorporate in 'back to school' activities - use the great - 'We All Fit In' idea from Michelle, and make up a class puzzle with children writing and illustrating each word on a puzzle piece..

  • Use in games and activities from 'back to school' activities - use the great - '101 Ways to Use Word Cards'

  • I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
