Royal Show in the Classroom

by Kellie
(Adelaide)

Yes, I know I've left my preparation time a bit late - but I'm finally feeling brave enough......

I have a Reception class and would like to do "The Royal Show" in my room this week. Any ideas - suggestions that you have tried, and that work? I have "done" the show before with older children when we design show bags, rides, etc. but this group I have this year require far more basic experiences. Help ;)

here are some ideas I used with receptions
by: Daina

Who has been to the show before? What is at a show? Why do they have shows?

? Brainstorm some rides that the students have been on. Design a show ride. First on paper and then using junk materials - students design a show ride.

? What is at the show? How do people know where to find things? Design a show map so that people can get around the show. Remember to view it like a bird flying over.

? Show bags are always popular. In the old days they were called ?sample bags? and had lots of free samples in them. Now we buy them. They can be food or products. Design a show bag that you would like to buy. What things are in the show bag? Using junk materials make your show bag and then share with the class. (oral presentation)

? Animals are important at the show as it is a chance for farmers to show their stock. What animals do you find at the show? Research one of the farm animals that are at the show. Find out.. o What they are called?
o What do they eat?
o How do you look after them?
o Why do people keep them?
o Any other interesting facts

? Design a poster to advertise when the show is on and how much it costs to go to the show.
? Write a menu of the food that you can buy at the show.

Hi I have a Pre Primary class (5 yr olds) we make our own show bags. We use farm animal stamps to create repeating patterns on a large sheet of paper and then make this into our show bag. We then make goodies to put in it eg windmill, sheep/cow head band, a farm book, popcorn etc.
