Resources and Lesson Plans

Hi all...Fingers Crossed :) I'll be a graduating teacher at the end of this semester. I hoping to do relief work, does anyone have any suggestions or advice on appropriate books/websites that have ideas for substitute teachers?? I'm Early childhood trained, so I'll be working with K-2 classes.

Thanks

relief teaching

Hi, and welcome to the 'calling'!
My big tip for you is to have a nice selection of stickers ready to put on the first student that does the right thing. You should have no trouble from then on with behaviour. Remember you are only there for the day/hour/week so why not make it a pleasant experience for all of you.
I personally don't use rewards in my classroom. I'm a big You Can Do It! fan (see the website, just google it). I would start year ones off with heaps of stickers and praise and cuddles for nearly the whole of term one, then cut back on the stickers but keep the praise up, and eventually the kids were able to choose if they wanted a sticker or just 'the good feeling inside'. I know it sounds loopy, but it works.
I still use stickers and rewards when going into someone else's class though.
Have a great time.

Welcome Relief
by: Lowenna

There are a few books out there for Substitute/Casual teachers... One that I use is Welcome Relief by R.I.C... They have levels 1-7.

"Each book in the series of seven presents a one-week program of work covering all major components of the curriculum. The week is divided into five daily components so that the package's use can be flexible. Detailed notes are provided for each lesson and where applicable a fully reproducible worksheet is provided. Two worksheets are provided for additional activities and are indicated with an asterisk."

The burrabooks website is a good one if you want to buy books, resources etc, as it sells books from different publishers.
