Remember Children's Birthdays
by Donna
(K-3 Teacher Resources)
It is my son's birthday today and we took some cupcakes to share with his class (as you do!!).
This whole process reinforced once again, just how important it is as a Teacher to try and remember student's special days. Honestly, self esteem is hard enough to come by these days and a little bit of encouragement and 'positive attention' goes a very long way with children.
As I passed over the cupcakes to the teacher, I could see my son 'smirking' with excitement as his friends all started with the 'Happy Birthdays'. Knowing my son, he most likely would not have told anyone about his Birthday unless I 'forced' (I mean encouraged) him to take in some cupcakes to share. From the look on his face I could tell he was glad we did also.
They are so precious - try to remember and encourage those small things such as Birthdays and special 'Hellos' each morning. Those little things mean a whole lot to a small child......
Cheers and Happy 8th Birthday to my beautiful boy!
