Puzzle Story Writing Idea

by Donna Seen
(Tasmania, Australia)

Integrate a fine motor/manipulative activity with literacy.

Have students complete an interesting puzzle with a good picture and lots of features to look at like a park, zoo or beach scene.

Have them write a short story inspired from the puzzle.

A great way to make the puzzle experience last a little longer than two minutes.

Fun

Sounds like fun. I've never heard a kid say that he/she didn't like doing jigsaw puzzles! I think it would help them remember the details of the picture more too... so this would lend itself to memory tests, talking (and listening) and writing about the small details they remembered from the image, and the locations of the images (Science and Tech). I would love to try it.
