Prep Blog

(Victoria)
Hi,
I am a prep teacher and would love to create a blog for my prep grade.
Just wondering if other prep teachers have created a class blog or use blogs in the classroom and how do they use them with their class?
Are the blogs easy to create for someone who is not computer savvy?
Thanks

Year 1 Telling the time
Submitted by Danielle
With a year one class we played What's the Time Mr Wolf - but instead of the wolf (myself) calling out 'It's one o'clock!" I used a clock with moveable hands.

Storing Teacher Themed Resources
Submitted by Jennifer
I am having a major sort out! Has anyone got any ideas for how to organise teaching theme resources?

I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!

What others are saying...
Last term I created my own class blog on Classtell.com and it is brilliant! It's free and has loads of great themes I can add. I update it all the time to keep parents informed about what is happening in our classroom. I can also let them email me through Classtell without handing out my email address. I chose to make it a private site so only the parents of my students can view it. But that's up to you. I add photos and videos so I like to keep it private. The parents love it, the kids love looking at it and I love it! I really love that it is free. Give it a go.
Wonderful
Thanks to everybody who contributed to my question. I can't wait now to start a blog with my Prep grade after reading your comments and ideas.
Hi I have a class blog that I have been using for 3 years now. I use edublogs
http://wpsreceptions.edublogs.org/
Its a great way for sharing what is happening in our class.
Have fun
I am a student teacher but plan on doing this with a class as soon as I have one. I think it's a great way to communicate with students and their families and invite interaction between users. Students can contribute in so many ways too. I've only recently set up my own blog as I'm also keen for my daughter's school to start using them and figured the best way to learn was by doing. I chose to use Blogger which was very easy to set up and can be set for private use (invite only) but some schools use edublogs (check them out at www.edublogs.org). You can visit my blog - http://youclevermonkey.blogspot.com/ It's not as purposeful a class one but serves it's own purpose this year while I am studying. Some other class blogs, visit - http://ehpsblogs.com/year3/ or

Good luck with it all.
I don't teach prep, but I have a blog for my grade 2 class. You can find it at http://thesmarties2.blogspot.com
I use it as a shared/modelled writing activity at the end of the day. We brainstorm the things we learned and I write them up with the kids watching on the interactive whiteboard. Then we edit it together. I add photos when I get home from school (too slow uploading at school). The kids love seeing their work and photos and get a thrill when people from all over the world leave us messages.
I made a wiki to help teachers at my school start blogging. You might find it useful too. www.lisagallin.wikispaces.com
I find blogger pretty easy to use, but I know other teachers who like edublogs.

I have a Prep class and haven't thought of doing a blog. What a great idea! I have a personal blog so I know that they are easy to set up and continue. I have mine through google blogspot. If you google it you will find it. If you are interested you can check out my blog at:

Posting blogs has been made so easy that even we can do it! There is no longer a need to understand HTML or any other gibberish! You just type and it instantly appears for all to see! The best thing of all is that once a blog is posted, it stays forever and remains a wonderful resource for others. Best of luck!
