Positive Popsticks

by Kathryn
(Adelaide )

We use positive popsticks in our classroom to develop peer relationships and self-esteem.

You need a popstick for each child in your class and write each child's name on one popstick.

Randomly - each child picks out another child's popstick.

If you use this during circle time each child says something positive or encouraging to the appropriate child.

You can also use this by 'doing something special' for your special popstick buddy.

Popsticks/5 Good Things
by: Denise

I like the pop-sticks idea too. I may also add a small picture of the student on the pop-stick/ Tongue Depressor to help students identify the name. I have kindergarten students and think this would be a great end of the day or mid day activity.

I also thought of writing "1st Good Thing"
on one stick and "2nd Good Thing" on another and so forth, and just choose 5 students to verbalize what they think were 5 Good Things that happened that day.

I think this is a great variation to this method of saying something nice to someone else. Great communication skills to help create positive self esteem. I will give this a try.
