Phonemic Awareness and Adult Illiteracy

Although I am a trained (new grad) early childhood teacher I am teaching adult literacy and numeracy.

I have a client who is illiterate and although he can recognise letters, I thought I perhaps should start with phonemic awareness and get him to practice and learn these first, I was going to go with the S A T P I N order.

Is this what you would do any help would be greatly appreciated.
