I agree that phonemic awareness is what each young learner needs. Even a 3-year-old can 'get it' -- watch my little video on YouTube; search IndependentScholar - cut and paster the following URL into your browser.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSJ-tu84pRY

When we choose to focus on speech sounds, we'll create a solid foundation for precise spellings. How much better using words-to-be-read, that is actual author vocabulary?! I've posted a huge database of ideas.
