Phoebe Reading Activity

by Kathryn
(Napier, NZ)

One of our many soft animals in my Year 1 classroom is a rabbit called Phoebe. She is a bit of a character and gets up to mischief during the weekend while we are away from school.

Someone mysteriously takes photos of her getting up to her tricks and prints the picture with caption for the children to find on Monday mornings.

These we have collected in a clearfile to use as an independent reading resource. eg "During the weekend when no one was here, Phoebe had a coffee in the staffroom, did headstands on the carpet, climbed our shade tree, had fun on the slide, sat in the Principal's chair" and so on.

The students love to be first to school on Monday to see what Phoebe has been up to.

Love it!

This sounds like a fabulous idea. I use something similar with my kindy class we have a bear called B.J who we take home in a box. He has a set of instructions and a disposable camera. The children take turns to take him home each night and take him on an adventure. They record his adventure in a class book.
