Using ipods in the Classroom... Haven't things changed over the years. Remember typewriters and roneos, cassette tapes and do you even remember playing music CD's !!! Now we have computers, printers, IWB's, laptops, and ipods. Many Teachers love their IWB's if they are lucky enough to have one - and computers are almost second nature these days in many classrooms - but what about ipods ? For those of you who have not entered the ipod touch / or iphone world - basically the ipods and I believe particularly the ipod touch has the potential to be a significant learning tool. Now, I know of many early childhood teachers who are ordering sets of the ipod touch for their classrooms as part of their classroom budgets. Nowadays with ipod educational applications, books and podcasts growing so quickly they have almost become a 'mini computer'. Here are a few examples of how they can be used in our K-3 environments....most of the ipod downloads are available through itunes - this takes a little getting used to and to explore their store you do need to download itunes software - but really is worthwhile and with time - organising the downloads is really quite easy and efficient.... *download all your songs into categorised playlists - easy to find - easy to play. *use in listening centres - there is a growing number of stories, books and podcasts available in ipod format - for example - itunes now has all the Paul Jennings books available as well as many other children's books. I am absolutely sure this will continue to grow... *if you can have 4-6 available - they would be ideal as a literacy and maths 'group activity' - reinforcement of concepts *many of maths and literacy ipod applications are available for download - all terrific for concept practice (not just playing games, there really are some great educational apps and they continue to expand) Now I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg and there are many, many more uses out there - I have started a thread over at our Teaching Ideas Directory where we can share ways of using the ipod touch as well as favourite educational ipod apps, books, songs, podcasts.... Cheers to all... *New Resource Additions to Membership... **40 Toys Theme Words ----- FREE DOWNLOAD **56 Positive Words and Phrases
