News Routine
by Vicki
(Perth, WA, Australia)
I have 23 Year 1/2 students. They are divided into 4 groups. We don't have news on Friday unless someone is absent. Our scheduled time is usually at the end of the day. We follow a similar format every day e.g.
"Good afternoon/morning everyone/boys and girls".
Students responds, "Good afternoon, (name of child)".
Students telling news are encouraged to use the 5Ws (Who, What, When, Where and Why/Feelings) when telling their news.
After the student has told his/her news. The student asks for questions or comments.
"Are there any questions or comments"?
Students then respond - usually one boy and one girl.
When the news is finished.
"Thank you for listening to my news"
"Your welcome, (name of child)".
