Kindergarten Water Expo Help

by Sasha
(Sydney, NSW)

Feeling a bit like I have bitten off more than I can chew .... so thought I would see if anyone out there has any bright ideas?

My Kindergarten class (all boys) are going to be holding an 'expo' of sorts at the end of our unit of inquiry on water. Over the holidays they are going to either choose a water experiment to show to others (eg. sinking/floating, using food dye in water, etc) or create a poster about water to present to others. They have been investigating the uses of water and where water comes from.

Now .... how is this going to work in practice???? :) I'll be setting up tables/areas for the boys to put their experiment/poster on, but I'm envisaging chaos as boys and parents are wandering around to look!

Any ideas would be appreciated - perhaps half the class present to the other boys and parents then swap? Ask parents to man the tables to help the boys with their presentations?

Help!

Thanks for the ideas! My campus only has PK-2 on it, so I'm not sure how helpful our Year 2 boys will be as buddies, but I'm thinking the parents helping are definitely the right way to go.

Also like the idea of staggering the presentations - particularly the food dye ones being last!! :)

Thanks again.

It might be too late for this but do you have a buddy system ie older kids from another year group buddy up with the kindy kids? That may help a little - can it be done outside? Not sure how the weather is for you? Let us know how it all goes. :-)

I don't think you have bitten off more than you can chew!!
Involve the parents, I like the idea of them helping with the tables while the boys present.
Maybe you could sort the ideas, i.e all posters present first, then sinking objects, then floating objects etc. Leave any experiments involving food dye until last though, as this might involve more clean up than the others.

Have you thought about having like mini swimming pools, those shell ones with huge plastic sheet under it...............

check any garage sales or charity shops to see what they have

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
