Kindergarten - First Grade Daily Schedule Sample / Lead Teacher

by Nicole
(Goldsboro, NC - USA)

The key to a successful day is planning, planning, planning and practice, practice, practice!!! Class schedules should be free of "DEAD TIME", and students should be very familiar with all routines and expectations. Teachers must also remember to make lessons fun, engaging, and hands-on. busy schedule
by: Denise

Sorry to just get back to this, I got busy towards the mid part of the year and never returned to this site. Just officially joined today!

As for the schedule I posted before... this is a public school kindergarten. We do have 25 minutes of outside time everyday. Unfortunately there is NO housekeeping, blocks, dramatic play, sand and water tables, painting at an easel, etc. It is not like this all over our state, but this is typical for most of the large counties. Some kindergarten classes in the rural counties are more developmentally appropriate.

Any Centers
by: Denise

Hi, to everybody out there who commented about lack of centers, I can tell you that developmental centers are becoming less and less common in North Carolina. It is a shame really that our youngest learners are subjected to long days that are more like first grade than kindergarten. My schedule is quite similar.

7:00-7:20- Students unload back packs, use the bathroom, and can get the blocks, Legos, etc. out if they have time.
7:25- 7:35- Morning News (school channel)
7:35- 7:40- Class announcements, check notes, etc.
7:40- 8:05- Imagine-It Phonics
8:05- Music & movement song
8:10- 8:30- Imagine-It Reading and Responding
8:30- 9:25- Guided Reading Groups, Must-do seat work, literacy work stations
9:25- clean-up
9:30- 10:25- Investigations Math
10:25- Clean-up and prepare for lunch
10:35-11:05- Lunch
11:05- 11:30 - Bathroom break/outside playtime
11:30-12:15-Special classes(music, art, media, etc)
12:20-12:55- mini-lesson and Writer's Workshop
1:00- 1:30- Science/ SS alternate weekly
1:30-1:37- Pack-up
1:40- Dismissal

Any Centers?
by: Anonymous

Children learn so much while working in a Block Center, Dramatic Play Center, and more. I'm concerned that you didn't mention these upfront. Are they somewhere where I didn't see them?

A busy day
by: Liz

Hi

What a busy day. How old are the children? Is there any outside play time?
