Busy, busy - we have 'almost' settled into our new house - it's lovely to finally have a place of our own - we treasure it....and we have kept Ikea profits up indeed !!! Oh come on admit it - you are not a fully fledged Teacher until you discover Ikea - all hail to STORAGE! LOL CHRISTMAS GIFT VOUCHERS...If you are looking for a different type of Christmas Gift for your Teacher friends this year - or an ideal gift which can be sent far and wide via email - why not purchase a gift voucher for 1 Year Membership to this site. Basically we issue you a code to send to your friend (you can even print out our special gift certificate) and they then use this code to sign up for a year starting from whenever they enter their code......Easy and if your friend has already discovered us - the code can be used to renew their membership when it is due....more info here... The little elves and I have been working through our HUGE whiteboard of suggestions and have joyfully finished and added - virtues words, consonant blends, Mummy Kissing Santa Claus, 12 Days of Christmas Concept Book and our Handwriting Cat. Around the House words and Camping concept books are just about ready to go.... Our NEW Photo Gallery of resources 'In Action' is looking fabulous. Don't forget - send in 4 useable photos of our resources 'in action' and have a year's membership on us....TAKE A LOOK... Interactive Writing / Reading I came across this idea in my daily reading - as I try to keep up with what is going on in the K-3 world. I cannot believe I have not come across this idea before - it is a fabulous idea. Basically, interactive writing is about sharing the writing process, particularly with those children who need loads of encouragement to write. There are no interruptions for spelling mistakes and other writing conventions during the interactions, rather - the teacher or adult responses, model the correct spelling and writing conventions and procedures unobtrusively. Writing could be in the form of journals, letters, messages or notes, even emails. The focus is on the response as the teacher or adult include prompts and questions encouraging more writing interaction from the student. The adult keeps in mind modelling correct spelling and writing procedures - particularly related to the needs of the individual student's writing - in their responses instead of directly correcting the students mistakes. This is a great way to engage children to write about their world and interests, if someone shows interest in their world - communication, reading and writing starts to flow...... Ahh - I hear you say - when on earth do we find the time to answer or write back to all students? - very good point. To be honest, I am now sure of this answer, but some suggestions might be... *just have one of these sessions once per week so that you are only responding once a fortnight. *train and set up some other helpers to communicate with 4-5 students regularly. *just use this method on those students who really need the encouragement to write. *encourage the parents to practise this method with their children - make it a homework exercise for 1 term. I know I am going to try this with my 8 year old son... We would love to hear how this works for you - please share at our writing ideas page...thanks Cheers to all...
