Jeopardy Phonics Game

by Kylie
(Home Hill)

Hi, a teacher friend of mine has found this wonderful game that our grade 3 children love.

It's based on the jeopardy game. We have each question based on a 'phonics' sound.

We have questions worth 100 points up to 500 points and divide the children into teams. Each team takes turns in picking from the board. They may pick the sound 'EA' for 300 points. Then I read them the question..... You find sand and water here! They need to answer the question and spell it correctly to get the points.

The winning team is the team with the most points. The kids don't even realise that they are consolidating their learning of sounds!!! It is great!!!

Simple but clever and interesting idea. I could use this when teaching casual days. Adapts well to other KLAs too. It's always great to be able to provide students with a fun way to learn. Thanks for sharing.
