I can Problem Solve

by Alicia
(Wichita, KS)

This is simple and effective.

The idea is to get the students to do their OWN thinking so the teacher won't do the thinking FOR THEM.

This is from the 'I can Problem Solve' Curriculum that I just recently learned more about.

When a problem arises ask:

1. What is the problem? (even though you know what it is)
2. Get the problem from both sides.
3. Ask how does that make you FEEL? and you feel? or how do I feel when you do that?
4. Can YOU think of a way to solve this problem?

The main idea here is for the student to do the thinking independently so the teacher doesn't need to continually tell them to do things.. like say you're sorry, or pick that up, or clean that up, etc.

Also-- be consistent, be firm, and be fair.
