Gardening and the Solar System

Hello
I am a keen gardener. So I do a unit on gardening every year. This year I am combining an introductory to gardening but combining it with a unit on the stars and planets.

We have researched our galaxy and solar system and now coming back down to earth. To introduce plants I have used the ancient old garden science of planting by the moon cycle.

This allows us to categorize the planets into - 1. leafy plants for the first week from the new moon. 2. fruit/seed plants for the second week (up to full moon) and 3. root plants in the third week.

The fourth week is a barren week fertility wise so maintenance is the heading for that week.

It has helped us understand and appreciate plants more and helps us organize the planting of them.
Thank you
