Friendship Stop

by Michelle
(Victoria)

We have developed a friendship stop within the school playground. A signpost was designed and made from wood. The kids then painted and drew friendship related pictures on it. Then it was introduced to the kids.

This is a place where kids can come when they have lost their friends in the playground or have no one to play with. Other students are encouraged to regularly stop by and pick up the kids that have no one to play with.

This is working really well and the whole school love it, especially as it was a student initiative.

Great!

Sounds great & innovative to boost morale of down & dejected children silently in need of the emotional bonding. I too shall try out this path breaking new venture to nurture friendship among children.Keep goi'n!

what a great values idea
by: judy

We have a values program in our school and this would be a wonderful idea to put in place when we do the "friendship" value. Thankyou for sharing!

another version

Our school has a friendship park bench that sits under a tree in the playground, which works on a similar system. It even has the words, "a friend is near" engraved on the chair.

Terrific idea
by: Jennifer

What a terrific idea, as a mum of a child with Aspergers, i love this idea! My daughter spends many of her lunch breaks on her own or being bullied.

This should be sent to every school in Australia, we are at a school that has 65 children and it happens alot, we are under an hour from Brisbane city near ipswich.

Thanks for the great idea and i plan on using it.

wow!

The Friendship Stop sounds wonderful! What terrific leadership the kids can show by stopping by and picking up kids in need of a friend. I think I'll suggest your idea to our school's student council. :)

Fabulous Idea
by: Donna

Hi Michelle

Thanks so much for sharing this - what a fabulous, team building and self esteem idea.

To be honest it brought tears to my eyes - I know I am a wimp, but it used to break my heart seeing children sitting alone at lunch time.

What a wonderful way to encourage each other.

Well Done...
