First day, week back at year 1

Submitted by Kyla (08-11-2012)

I know this has already been asked and is the January question etc. but am just after a few more little ideas for what to do with Year 1's during first day/week.

I know I need to be doing lots of little interesting and engaging activities but am just after a couple of practical ideas! Any particular good books (able to get in Australia/ likely school library to have) and activities to follow?

Also seeking some fun and interesting ideas for 'get to know you' type activities to do with maybe the kids families, things they like etc.

I know there are lots of good games to do at this time of the year but sometimes the kids really enjoy finally getting to 'do some work' if you know what i mean!

Thanks!!

If you could get your hands on a "Tribes" book they contain lots of getting to know you and breaking the ice type games.

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
