First day of school

Read the book 'Possum goes to school'. Then tell children that a possum came into the school and we are going on a possum hunt to find it. Take the children for a tour of the school and ask each room that you visit have they seen a possum.

Word up the teachers before you visit them. After a tour of the school, I have a soft toy possum sitting on my desk. This possum becomes our class pet and each night a child takes the possum home to visit and they or their parents write about what the possum did at their home.

The child then shares the diary at school the next day.

 Wombats?

I love the idea. Unfortunately I read it too late for this year and I have already bought a wombat for my class. I don't know of any 'Wombat Goes to School Stories". I might have to make one up.
