I am seeking any ideas/ tips about teaching the topic of democracy. I have a year 2/3 class.

I've used the units on the following site and they are excellent. I have only used them with primary though you may be able to adopt them to suit younger students.

There are some great DET websites that focus on this.
There is a Civics and Citizenship Education website at http://www.civicsandcitizenship.edu.au/cce/ which has resources, information, activities and links for teachers/students/parents.
