With a year one class we played What's the Time Mr Wolf - but instead of the wolf (myself) calling out 'It's one o'clock!" I used a clock with moveable hands.

I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!

What others are saying...
If you have access to Numicon (UK-based Maths program) they use them.
There are also lots of clips if you do a search on cuisenarie.
Cheers
Dear Lyn
I'm feeling very old here ......
I have copies of the following books plus approx 60 picture making cards published in 1965. I thank the older teachers who have shared their resources over the years with me. Now I have the opportunity to share with others.
1. Teachers Manuals - A Practical Guide to Cuisenaire Mathematics Prep to Year 2 by A. L. Cole, 1965. (3 books printed)
2. A Practical Guide to Cuisenaire Mathematics Prep - books 1 and 2 by A. L. Cole, 1965. (2 books printed)
3. A Practical Guide to Cuisenaire Mathematics Grade 1, books 1, 2 and 3 by A. L. Cole, 1965.
4. no works books for Year 2 :( although there were 3 books printed.
5. A Practical Guide to Cuisenaire Mathematics Junior Primary, books 1, 2 and 3 by A. L. Cole, 1965. (4 books printed)
These books are out of print but some state libraries have them.
After all these years I have gone back to using the rods in my classroom for those children who have difficulty with the concept of the size of a number in relation to other numbers. When all else fails, going back to something with a new novelty value works.
Try Maths you see blocks. They are so much better than cuisenaire rods. They have segments marked on them and children can instantly see the answers. Great for addition subtraction place value too.
I just googled it and found a number of possibilities. Here is one . Cuisenaire Rod and Pattern Block Activities

Best wishes.

tells us a few ground rules. There are a few sample pages also at hand2mind.com
I googled Cuisenaire rods as I also have some.
I remember seeing a brilliant way to use them as fractions, but sadly don't remember where. I shall keep searching
If you google up activites with cuisenaire rods there are a heap of activities to view.
Cuisenaire rods haven't been used for years. I'd say that you'd probably have to create your own resources for using them as we now only use the base 10 rods - i's, 10's, 100's(flats) and 1000's (cube).
However, if anybody else has any suggestions I too would like to know as I have a set of cuisenaire rods myself that are just sitting in a cupboard collecting dust!
