The Funny Clown - Suggestions for Use

  • Works in well with our Circus Theme word cards.

  • I have included 18 different pages, however, all of these were not intended to be used at one time necessarily.  Just choose the pages you would like to include in your book.  For example, the 18 pages would be fine if you decide to do up a class book with each child creating a different page for the book.  However, the 18 pages would be far too much for an individual book.

  • Use the A4 size for the introductory shared book session.  Use modelled writing from children's shared responses to introduce this book.

  • Go through the children's completed books and make a list of all the action verbs which have been used throughout their different versions.

  • This simple book can be used a various levels.  Younger levels could just focus on writing one word, for example 'This funny clown is....sleeping'.  Older children could be asked to make their writing more interesting using adjectives and giving more explanation of what the clown is doing - for example 'This funny clown is...quietly sleeping on his little bed after an exhausting day of clowning around.'

  • Ideal opportunity to focus on the 'ing' ending.

  • Use this as a guide for children to make up their own funny clowns - what are their funny clowns doing?  Children could paint their funny clown or make a funny clown puppet with hinges so that they can move using the different action verbs.

  • I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
