Class Sharing Circle Wonderful Way to Develop Speaking and Listening Skills
What a Great Teaching Idea.....
Class Sharing Circle
This was a great informal way to allow children to practise their speaking and listening skills.
At least once a day we would enjoy a sharing circle.
Here are a few ideas for organising a sharing circle I have used in the past and have worked successfully.
- Whole class sharing - in a circle, each child stands and shows his chosen completed work, and explains one
aspect of it which he/she enjoyed, learned, found tricky.
- (MY FAVOURITE!) After a completed activity, the teacher informally shows each child's work and praises each child
for a specific aspect of their work. This worked really well for self esteem. It also was
fantastic for pointing out specific teaching points to reinforce. For example, 'I really like the way Samuel has remembered to write all the names in
his story using a beginning Capital letter.'
- Using a roster system, or name card system, 3-5 children
choose a completed activity they share with the class.
- Another great way to do this is for the children to share (as above) in small groups. Older children can take
turns being the 'teacher' and praising the others for their work.
