Class Reading Activity - "What Did The Bear Do When No-one Was Here?"

by Sharyn
(St Helens Tasmania Australia)

This reading activity happened by accident when a child's bear was left behind on a Friday afternoon. The class was Prep 1 (6 and 7 year olds this year). I took some photos of the bear doing some of the classroom activities such as doing a puzzle, reading a book, construction, and art.

I then made a small book to share with the children on Monday morning. (Yes I went in on the weekend, obviously a K-3 teacher!!!!) The story followed a simple pattern..... 'On the weekend when no-one was here, Daisy Bear .......

This captured the children's imagination and we brainstormed what other things the bear could do. The children drew and wrote about things the bear could do.

Then together we took more photos to add to our small book (now much larger). We put it in a display folder to keep the pages safe. The children enjoyed taking this book home to share with their parents and the child, whose bear it was, felt very special for quite a few weeks. The book was a class favourite during quiet reading.

I will try that one. We have Jimmy monkey that is a valuable class member, I'm sure he gets up to all sorts of things when we're not there
