Blends

Hello
I am a student teacher of mature age! Please can anyone tell me is there a definitive list of digraphs and blends?

Is the onset and rime blends on this website the definitive list?

And is there a correct order to teach the blends, or is it more the case that as long as you have taught the letters you can teach the digraph or blend.

I generally teach blends in the follow order after single letters;
- initial consonant blends (bl, fl, dr, etc)
- final consonant blends (st, mp etc)
- consonant digraphs (ch, sh, th, ck, ph etc)
- vowel diagraphs (ea, ee, oa, ai etc)

I use the Diana Rigg sequence. It is especially good for ESL students.

  • I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!
