Back to School Pledge - Suggestions for Use

  • GENERAL IDEAS FOR USING OUR NURSERY RHYMES, POEMS AND SONGS HERE

  • VIEW HOW OTHERS ARE USING THIS RESOURCE.. NURSERY RHYMES, POEMS AND SONGS PHOTO GALLERY

  • A great, positive poem to start off the new school year - a bit of fun with lots of rhyming words and word play potential!

  • A great little song to add to the first day of school activities - talk about what we might learn this year, what activities we might do, how we might care and share with each other etc - great for prelude to brainstorming classroom rules.

  • Children sign and keep the A4 copy - refer to this often when needing a review of appropriate behaviour and rules etc.

  • Print the A4 size for each child to pop into their nursery rhymes, poems and songs scrapbook - children 'play with the words, letters and sounds'

  • Print (bigger onto A3 if prefer), pop onto coloured backing card, laminate and keep up on display to refer to often as a class.

  • Print (larger onto A3 if you like, laminate, and cut up ready for children to reconstruct - pop into your song / poem box

  • Don't forget to really make the most of these poems / songs and put your detective hats on to search for rhyming words, circle phonic sounds, play 'find the word' games, look for question marks and other structures, lots of 'playing with words' - it's great fun to find all the word/letter patterns in poems and nursery rhymes.

  • I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
