Alphabet Spinners

Consonants and Vowels Alphabet Spinners

  • Another great literacy activity to add to 101 Fun Word Card Activities ....
  • Spin and Find a Word OR Spin and Make a Word....
Ideas for Use

Spin and Find - Spin and find that letter within any environmental print / readers / books / specified word cards..

  • Spin and Find - Spin and find a word with that regular letter sound at the BEGINNING of the word within environmental print / readers / books / specified word cards.

  • Spin and Find - Spin and find a word with that 'regular' letter sound in the MIDDLE of the word within environmental print / readers / books / specified word cards.

  • Spin and Find - Spin and find a word with that 'regular' letter sound at the END of the word within environmental print / readers / books / specified word cards

  • Spin and Make CVC Words - Children spin a consonant - write it in their book (or collect a matching printable alphabet letter tile), then spin a vowel - write it next to the consonant (or collect a matching letter tile), then spin another consonant - write it next to the vowel (or collect matching letter tile) - DO THESE 3 LETTERS MAKE A WORD? - if yes - keep it (or glue together the letter tiles) - if no - cross it out.

  • Spin and Make a Word Game - Children take turns to spin a consonant and a vowel - they collect matching printable alphabet letter tiles - creating a pile. Children create and glue together CVC words from their growing letter tile pile as the game is played - who has the most CVC words?

  • Similar to above game - however - children have 'specified' words (eg: theme words, sight words, word families, CVC words) which they have to create, so they have to spin and collect letter tiles to create and glue together 'specified' words.. Who is able to create all the words first?

  • Spin your name - children spin and collect letter tiles until they have made up the letters in their name.

  • Spin and Say - spin a letter - say it's NAME and the 'REGULAR' sound it makes.

  • There are SO many activities you could do with these alphabet spinners - please share your ideas in the comments section below

  • I saw an interesting post on Pinterest the other day, showing a plastic, sandwich size, zip-lock bag that had had a piece of duct tape run along the base. The duct tape provided reinforcing that allowed holes to be punched through the bag for storage in a binder. I imagine you could run the tape down the side of larger zip-lock bags for a similar effect. This may not solve all your storage issues, but if there\'s just a few small games to go with a unit that\'s otherwise stored in a binder, it might help!

  • I was just thinking the other day that I needed some matching cards for numbers over 100 then today I came across the new parts of speech posters and thought I\'d check out the \"What\'s New\" section and there I found exactly what I had been wanting. Thank you so much for your wonderful resources. This is the first place I check when looking for resources and I\'ve been able to build a great collection since moving to the lower school grades last year. Thanks again!
