ABC Order with Word Wall, Theme Word Cards

I love the word wall / theme word cards with pictures and words. I "accidentally" discovered a new use last fall.

I passed out 3 or 4 cards per student. The student was then to put them in ABC order. Then I combined several sets and had them put them in order by teams.

Another day, I passed out three at a time. The students put them in ABC order and wrote them on their paper. When they finished they traded the first three for three different cards and wrote those.

The nice thing about this is the teacher can control which words a student receives. If you are only alphabetizing by the first letter, use three words that begin with different letters.

As students gain confidence, the teacher can give two cards that begin with the same first letter, but different second letters.
