Hello once again, and a big warm Welcome to our New Members, we now have reached the 300 Members mark and I truly hope our resources are helping each and every Member.
We also thank you for your patience as the site grows and we learn (mistakes and all) - I am gradually learning how the whole internet process works - thanks for joining us on this huge learning curve.....it's great to have your company!!!!
We have been busy again this month with lots of new resources loaded. Thanks for all your suggestions and ideas, we do listen and have a large list of suggestions which we review regularly. Please, please, please send us photos of your classroom. It does not necessarily have to be of our resources but just of your classroom set up and displays. We would love to get this section up and running as it is really interesting to see how other classrooms / homeschools are set up. You can download a picture and add a little comment on this page. Thanks! I am in the process of also trying to add as many 'Ideas for Use' pages as I can to help everyone with ways to use our resources. I am really enjoying doing this and the ideas are flowing - I hope the ideas are helping and will continue to keep adding them (slowly buy surely!!!!!) Teaching Tip Time... Update to 'Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading' from last newsletter. One of our member's emailed me with the similar great idea of 'DEAR' - Drop Everything And Read - not only at a specific time each day, but their school would ring the DEAR bell at any time - the whole school would then drop what they were doing and read for 15 minutes. What a great spontaneous idea - THANKS!
Mystery Bag I love this idea - it is great for oral language, communication skills and the description language process. Children are rostered on to take home the Mystery Bag. The bag is taken home with a note to the parents explaining that children need to bring in a mystery object chosen from home for the next day. Children are also to come up with some clues about their object with the help of their parents. A description framework (see below) could also be sent home to be utilized formally with actually writing clues down or for younger children just as a guide for discussing the clues. Back at school, draw up a large version of this description framework on the board, or chart and fill it in as the whole class sorts through the clues provided by the 'mystery bag' holder. This framework is also great for guiding questions about the object from the class.
