*Teaching Tip Time... Under 8's Day Our school celebrated Under 8's Day this week so I thought I would share some of the great activities our wonderful Prep-3 Teachers put together. The theme for this year was "Our Children - Our World - Our Future" and all of the Preps to Year 3 children were allowed free dress and were encouraged to wear green. Basically parents and caregivers were invited to stay and play with their children for the morning's activities. The children were allowed to join in any of the following activities which were organised by the fabulous teachers, aides, parent helpers, and upper primary students. Here is a list of the great activities for the morning..... *free sand play *a recycling station - a pulley system was hitched up to the play fort where children loaded the bucket with recyclable materials and containers. These were then loaded up with the pulley into the 'fort' station. *leaf printing *making 'grass heads' *handprints on a giant banner to celebrate Under 8's Day 2008 *threading around old greeting cards with holes punched around the edge *chalk drawing on the concrete *threading beads to make a necklace *puzzles *cardboard box construction *bubble blowing *making funny faces by gluing all sorts of bits and pieces onto compact discs. *dancing The Year 6 students then put together some wonderful science activities for the children... *how many drops of liquid could be placed on a certain size coin. *how water is filtered *drawing on recycled paper *dipping strips of paper into different food colours - observing the colour changes *tornado in a bottle *oil and water experiment *making paper hats Each child also had a passport which was stamped at each activity station. It was such a wonderful morning - with so much for the children to be involved in. It really is worthwhile organising a school community celebration like this. The teachers and helpers do a wonderful job - thankyou!
